Ripple was Trump inauguration's top crypto donor before SEC regulatory shift

Ripple Labs donated $4.9 million to Donald Trump’s January inauguration, just three months before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) began pausing lawsuit appeals and reducing fines against the crypto firm. The details of Ripple’s donation — the second largest after the $5 million handed over by poultry producer Pilgrim’s Pride — were made public on Sunday as part of a filing submitted to the Federal Election Commission. According to a list compiled by publisher Fortune, crypto firms and leaders were responsible for $18 million of the inauguration’s $239 million in donations. Crypto exchange Coinbase and investment firm Galaxy Digital donated $1 million each, while more modest gifts came from Yuga Labs and Consensys, which both donated $100,000 . Law Firm Files Federal Suit on Behalf of Investors Who Bought Haliey Welch’s Ill-Fated HAWK Memecoin

Investors who bought the token that “Hawk Tuah” meme star Haliey Welch launched earlier this month are taking legal action against the people behind the project. The price of Welch’s Solana (SOL)-based memecoin HAWK surged shortly after it went live earlier this month, but the token lost more than 95% of its value a few hours later, leading to accusations of a pump-and-dump scheme. A pump-and-dump scheme is a fraudulent practice in crypto that involves artificially inflating the price of a low-value token through hype and misrepresentation. Once the price of the coin goes up, those behind the scheme sell their holdings at a high price, crashing the price of the token. In a post on social media platform X, New York-based Burwick Law says it just filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of investors who bought the HAWK token. “This case involves claims related to investor protections under federal law and the HAWK TUAH memecoin HAWK launched on December 4, 2024.” A...

Elon Musk's X Sues Twitch: Alleges Conspired Boycott of X

Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) is launching a lawsuit against streaming service Twitch, alleging their advertisers conspired to boycott the social platform. X first filed the complaint in August against members of the Global Alliance of Responsible Media. The Musk-owned social platform has added Twitch as a defendant in the lawsuit, accusing advertisers of colluding to withhold ad spend. Twitch is owned by Amazon (AMZN). https://twitter.com/WatcherGuru/status/1858920730571731396 The addition of Twitch as a defendant to the suit indicates that X has no plans to de-escalate its legal fight against boycotting advertisers. This battle has been ongoing between X and advertisers since this past summer in court. The original complaint from Musk’s X accuses members of the Global Alliance of Responsible Media, a now-discontinued initiative that was led by advertising trade body the World Federation of Advertisers, of illegally colluding to “collectively withhold billions of d...

Swan Bitcoin has filed a lawsuit against Proton Management, a bitcoin mining firm made up of former Swan consultants, claiming that these executives “hatched and executed a ‘rain and hellfire’ plan to steal Swan’s” mining business.  Specifically, the suit alleges that several consultants who were a part of Swan’s Bitcoin mining operation allegedly planned to misappropriate Swan’s intellectual property to operate a “copycat company” that was also funded by Tether. Alex Mashinsky, the founder and former CEO of Celsius Network, a centralized crypto lender that folded in 2022, has been directed by a Manhattan state court judge to  respond  to a lawsuit initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The lawsuit alleges civil fraud, claiming that Mashinsky misled investors by portraying Celsius Network as a safe banking alternative while withholding its risks and significant investment losses. Former US judge stole WW2 veteran's savings for crypto, lawsuit claims

A former Illinois judge has been ordered to cough up $1.2 million after allegedly stealing over $380,000 from a WW2 veteran who entrusted her to manage his finances — instead, she pocketed the cash and spent it on Crypto currency, according to the state. 95-year-old Oscar Wilkerson Jr. served as a pilot for the Tuskegee Airmen regiment, America’s first all-black aviation combat unit. After his military service during WW2, the veteran reportedly worked at radio stations in Chicago . In November 2020, Wilkerson was moved to an elderly home.
